In what could be its historically best-attended meeting, The West University Place Zoning Board of Adjustment will meet Thursday at 6:30 p.m. to consider two applications from West University Baptist Church relating to the church’s plan to build a new Youth Center.

The ZBA is scheduled to conduct public hearings as well as “possible deliberations and decisions” on the church’s applications for special exceptions for property at 3826 Milton Street, and 3821 and 3831 Amherst Street

The ZBA is arguably the City of West University Place’s most powerful appointed citizen board because its land-use decisions are not subject to review by the city council. The ZBA is a quasi-judicial board, and any appeals of a ZBA decision must be adjudicated by a Harris County District Court. The ZBA has the power to hear and decide special exceptions and variances to the city zoning ordinance.

Because we are donating millions of our tax dollars to a church so that one of their members can get a tax deduction. I prefer to make my own personal donations to causes of my choice.
