On a split vote, the council approved a resolution supporting the appointment of former West University Place City Councilmember Ed Heathcott to the Harris County Appraisal District Board of Directors.

Councilmember Brendan Reilly voted against the appointment of Heathcott. Instead, Riley voted for the appointment of City of Bellaire resident James Avioli.

The city council unanimously approved the appointment Alan Petrov to the Board of Directors of the Harris-Galveston Subsidence District. Petrov is both a resident of the City of West University Place and the City Attorney. His new term will expire in 2018.

The Harris-Galveston Subsidence District regulates groundwater withdrawal throughout Harris and Galveston counties for the purpose of preventing land subsidence, which leads to increased flooding.

The city also appointed Susan Davis, a homeowner on Jarrard Street, to a place on the Senior Services Board.

Our tax money is going through the hands of the mayor and city council like water. It appears that anyone who agrees with them gets our tax money, anyone who doesn’t agree with them doesn’t. Right Michael Ross? When will the citizens get the benefit of tax money? I suspect this will occur next term when we vote again.
