West University Place city offices and services are operating on Veterans Day Wednesday, but federal, state, city of Houston offices are closed. That means no mail service.

Also open are schools, Harris County offices, and most businesses — but you may find your bank closed.

The city of Houston will sponsor its annual Houston Salutes American Heroes fair from 9 a.m.-1 p.m. at City Hall, with a parade launching at 11:30 a.m. from Dallas and Bagby streets. For more, click here.

West University Place should support veterans in this community who have served in the U.S. military. The Rotary Club distributes flags, Bellaire and Houston have huge celebrations planned, and many restaurants provide free meals and coffee. As a disabled veteran, I could not even get a cup of coffee in WUP on this special day. What does WUP do to honor the service of U.S. military veterans? It’s time for this city’s leadership to step up and celebrate those who has served in the U.S. military.
