Santa Claus finally arrived in West University Place Monday night, on a trial run for Christmas, waving from a city firetruck as “snow” fell in chilly temperatures.
The annual Christmas Tree Lighting ceremony, held in front of the Community Building on Auden Street, was a festival of the sights and sounds of the holiday season.
There were cookies and hot chocolate, reindeer, a sleigh, singers and dancers and kids playing in the fake snow that came blowing out of a machine, with soapy-tasting flakes.
Babies, bundled up in their holiday finest, were joined by kids of all ages at the annual event.
The St. Andrews Presbyterian Church Praise Choir provided favorite songs of the season, as kids and parents danced.
Santa Claus huddled with children to hear their Christmas wishes, as proud parents took turns taking photos.
The holiday event was sponsored by West U’s Parks and Recreation department.
