Christmas tree-cycling begins today in West U — but there are rules

December 28, 2015 By:Charlotte Aguilar

Local News

West University city crews will begin picking up Christmas trees from curbs Monday for recycling – provided they meet certain guidelines.

Trees may be placed out on residents’ regular trash day, and they must be stripped of any ornaments and stands. Flocked trees or those containing any foreign objects will be taken to the landfill for disposal.

The curbside pickup will run for three weeks. After that, trees will have to meet standard collection rules and be cut into 4-foot (or less) lengths, no greater than 3 inches in diameter, and stacked curbside.

If the piles are so large in size that they would delay crews from collecting trash normally, a special pickup will occur and a minimum collection fee of $50 will be assessed.

Officials have another caveat: If volume is too heavy, city workers may not be able to pick up your tree on the day you put it out. Be patient.

Of course there are rules! New rules are made up from staff, not citizens! This city needs further investigation!
