Suspects nabbed after bump-and-run carjacking, assault in West U

Crime Reports

An adult and juvenile are in Houston police custody, suspected in the aggravated assault and carjacking of a 22-year-old woman in West University at about 5:30 Tuesday evening.

Susie Murray, West U Police public information manager, said the victim was traveling in the 6200 block of Wakeforest near University Boulevard when she was “lightly struck” by another vehicle from behind. When she got out to check the damage, two black males exited the other car. One grabbed her by the neck and demanded her keys, which she turned over, and the pair fled southbound on Brompton in her vehicle, followed by a third suspect in the other vehicle.

West U Police were notified at about 3:30 a.m. today that the victim’s vehicle had been recovered and that two suspects – an adult and a juvenile — were in Houston police custody. The adult reportedly has a long history with the law including assault with bodily injury, injury to a child and trespassing.

The victim in the carjacking did not report any injuries, and it was unknown whether her personal belongings – which reportedly included her purse, a computer, tablet and phone – were recovered with her vehicle.

If you think you might be part of a similar bump-and-run scheme, don’t get out of your car, advises Murray. “Lock your doors, roll up your windows, and call the police,” she says.
