Heavy Trash Day is Saturday

The City of West University Place will hold the spring Heavy Trash Day Saturday, from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m., at the Public Works Maintenance Facility currently located at 3826 Milton.

The city hosts two heavy trash days each year, to allow residents of West U to discard of unwanted household items from clothing to furniture to working TVs.

Goodwill will be on site to accept usable items, such as, clothing, household items (working appliances, dishes, pots, pans, silverware), jewelry, linens (no stains or tears), furniture (no tears or stains), sporting goods, bed frames with all hardware, and working bicycles, working TV’s and stereos.

And, the city of West U will accept almost any residential trash item, except for household hazardous waste.  Items that are not accepted for regular curbside trash pickup, such as bricks, concrete, junk iron, or lumber also will be accepted.

The event is open to residents of West University Place, and proof of residency, such as a drivers’ license or West U water bill, is required.

To dispose of any items that have freon (refrigerators, air conditioners, etc.), donors must provide a certificate indicating the freon has been removed from the unit.

This event is for residential heavy trash only. No business/commercial trash will be accepted.

The city also will accept e-waste, such as computers, printers, cell phones, surge protectors, and uninterruptible power supplies (UPS) to be recycled.

City staff will be available to help residents unload their vehicles. The city requests that donors approach the event from the intersection of University & College Street.

    If the city moves the Public Works Maintenance Facility, I guess continuation of the traditional Heavy Trash Day will be in jeopardy. I always thought that was one of West U’s best programs.
