Pin Oak Middle School is among the first schools in the world granted rights to present the full production of Disney’s “The Little Mermaid.”
In the play, the beautiful young Ariel longs to leave her underwater kingdom and give up her identity as a mermaid to live in the world above. Her quest for a human soul leads to a range of adventures, including saving a handsome prince, visiting the Sea Witch, drinking a potion, attaining human legs and seeking true love.
West University Place eighth-grader Abby Boyce will take the stage in the lead role as Ariel, joined by featured cast members David Hulten as Prince Eric, C.J. Garza as Ursula, and Sydney Allen as Sebastian. Also in the cast are Emma McDonough as Flounder, Dennis Cao as King Triton, Luca Jarosz as Scuttle, Anu Gonvindan as Flotsam, Layla Saloman as Jetsam, Hilary Oulette as Grimsby, and Francisco Zurcher as Chef Louis, as well as 34 talented ensemble members.
“We are very excited to present this show,” said Jared Berry, Pin Oak Theater’s director. “This is the biggest undertaking in the history of our theatre department. Our production is a must see for students and children of all ages, their families and our community.”
Joining Berry on the production staff are OrEl Meir as stage manager, Michael Mertz as music director, and Khrystian Cunningham as choreographer.

Pin Oak Theater’s performances, held at Pin Oak Middle School at 4201 Glenmont in Bellaire, include February 25 – 27 at 6 p.m.,February 28 at 2 p.m., March 3 – 5 at 6 p.m., 6 p.m. March 3 through 6, 2015. General admission tickets are $10, with a limited number of front-row VIP tickets for $25.
