West U Crime Report

On January 16, a West U resident went to the police department to report that she had lost her Texas drivers’ license and a credit/debit card while shopping in Houston.

Also on January 16, a West U patrol officer observed a vehicle traveling northbound in the 6100 block of Buffalo Speedway with a defective driver’s side tail light. The officer initiated a traffic stop in the 5200 block of Buffalo Speedway and the driver was arrested for driving without a license and no insurance.

A resident of the 2700 block of Carolina Way called West U police last Saturday, to report the theft of a package from her front porch. The victim stated an unknown person(s) stole a package that had been delivered to her front door, which contained several items.

A West U police officer on Saturday nabbed two thieves who had just stolen merchandise from the Verizon Wireless store in the 5300 block of Kirby. Upon the officers’ arrival, he noticed a vehicle backing out of a parking spot. Two suspects, who matched the descriptions that had been given to the dispatcher were in the vehicle. The vehicle was stopped and after further investigation, the driver and front seat passenger was arrested for theft.

At 12:13 a.m. Sunday,  an officer observed a vehicle leaving a business parking lot in the 2600 block of Bissonnet, turning eastbound. The officer conducted a traffic stop in the 5200 block of Kirby, for failing to signal prior to entering the roadway. The operator of the vehicle was then arrested for driving while license invalid.

Another driver was arrested for driving while license invalid on Monday, after a West U officer noted the vehicle had an expired motor vehicle inspection sticker and expired registration. The officer initiated a traffic stop in the 4500 Block of Bissonnet on the vehicle. The driver was arrested.

Shortly before 11 p.m. on January 19, an officer was dispatched to the 4000 block of Tennyson, in response to a call about attempted prescription fraud. The officer met with the resident who stated he had received a call from a pharmacist requesting a refill on a prescription that he had never written. The officer gathered information for a report.

On Tuesday, January 20, West U officers were called to a residence in the 3000 block of Rice about a burglary in progress. When the officers arrived, they found that no entry had been made into the home. Police did discover damage to the exterior of the home, and filed a report for criminal mischief. No suspects were located.

At 2:33 a.m. on Wednesday, January 21, a West U officer conducted a traffic stop on a vehl  in the 3900 block of Swarthmore. During the traffic stop the officer obtained consent to search the vehicle. The driver/operator of the vehicle was subsequently arrested for possession of marijuana.

Also on Wednesday, a West U officer went to a residence in the 4000 block of University to investigate a reported theft. Upon the officer’s arrival at about 1:30 p.m.,the victim stated an unknown person(s) removed her patio table and chairs from her unsecured patio with consent.

At 4 p.m. that day, a West U officer was dispatched to the 5300 block of Kirby, to investigate a report of a burglary of a motor vehicle. The victim stated an unknown person(s) smashed the front passenger side window and stole her purse, which was sitting on the front passenger seat. Information was gathered and a report was generated.

There were no crimes reported to West U Police on January 22 or on January 23.
