The West University Little League Seniors, the reigning World Series champions, have returned to recapture their title at the Senior Division championship in Bangor, Maine.
The West U Seniors won their spot in the tournament by defeating Capitol Park Little League from San Antonio in the U.S. Southwest Regional on Tuesday, July 28, in Seguin.
This is West University’s fourth Bangor World Series appearance, with the others coming in 2009, 2010, 2012, and 2014. The 2009 and 2014 teams won the Senior Division World Series.
“They left Houston at 1:40 p.m. today,” said West U Little League president Robby Winston.
Many of the West U players are making a second appearance in the Senior League World Series.
“Eleven of the players from last year are on the team, they’re now 16 years old,” Winston said. “And there are five new guys who are 15-year olds this year.”
To get to the World Series, the West U Little League Seniors first had to win sectionals at a tournament in Pearland; then the state championship at a tournament in Tyler; and then, the regional tournament.
