Police officers in West University Place last week investigated two motor vehicle burglaries, one attempted motor vehicle burglary, and two cases of identity theft.
On July 2, a West U officer was dispatched to 59 Beechnut in regard of a subject who had an outstanding warrant from the West University Place Police Department. The subject was taken into custody for the warrant and transported to the West University Place jail.
Also on July 2, an officer observed a vehicle traveling eastbound in the 4100 block of Bissonnet with an expired registration. A traffic stop was conducted in the 5500 block of Weslayan and the driver was arrested for the offense of driving while license invalid.
At 8:46 p.m. on July 2, West U officers went to the area of Buffalo Speedway, and Robinhood in response to a report of a reckless driver. An officer observed a vehicle matching the description provided by the reportee in the 6600 block of Buffalo Speedway. The officer stopped the vehicle and the driver and passenger were arrested for possession of marijuana.
On July 3, an officer went to the 6400 block of Community in response to a subject passed out in a vehicle. The subject was arrested for the offense of Public Intoxication, a Class C misdemeanor.
A case of identity theft was reported on July 3 to a West U officer, by a resident of the 3700 block of Sunset. The complainant reported that an unknown person(s) used his personal identifying information to apply for several fraudulent loans online.
On July 5, a West U officer was dispatched to the 3700 block of Plumb in response to
an attempted burglary of a motor vehicle. The officer arrived and learned that sometime between July 2 and July 5, an unknown suspect damaged the driver door lock of the victim’s vehicle in an attempt to commit a theft.
A bicyclist who was riding in the 6400 block of Annapolis without a front white light was arrested by a West U officer. That incident took place on July 6.
On July 6, a West U officer observed a vehicle in the 4200 block of Bissonnet without a front license plate and a defective brake light. The officer stopped the vehicle in the 4300 block of Bissonnet. The driver was subsequently arrested for the offense of Driving While License Invalid, No Front License Plate and an Expired Registration.
Another driver was arrested for driving with an invalid license on the same day. A West U officer
observed the driver of a vehicle commit a traffic violation in the 6400 block of Buffalo Speedway. The officer stopped the driver in the 3000 block of W. Holcombe. Upon further investigation it was discovered that the driver was operating the vehicle with an expired driver’s license.
On July 7, a West U officer observed a vehicle parked illegally in the 3000 block of Quenby. The vehicle was parked facing oncoming traffic.Because the officer was unable to contact the owner, the vehicle was considered abandoned and was towed to another location for safe keeping.
On July 7, a West U officer was sent to the 5400 block of Community to investigate the burglary of a motor vehicle. The officer met with the victim who stated that sometime between 10:00 pm on July 6 and 8 a.m. on July 7, an unknown person(s) broke the driver’s side rear window and entered the vehicle without consent.
Another motor vehicle burglary was reported to West U police the same day. A West U officer was dispatched to the 5400 block of Kirby, where the victim reported that an unknown suspect(s) forced entry into the vehicle and took items.
At 9:09 p.m. on July 7, a West U officer saw a driver commit a traffic violation in the 4100 block of Bissonnet. The officer attempted to stop on the vehicle, however, the driver would not stop. After pursuing the vehicle for 12 blocks, the vehicle finally came to a stop in the 4000 block of Bellaire. The driver was arrested for evading in a motor vehicle.
Also on July 7, a West U officer saw a vehicle traveling at a high rate of speed in the 6000 of Buffalo Speedway. The officer stopped the vehicle in the 5900 block of Buffalo Speedway. The driver and passenger were subsequently arrested for Possession of Narcotics.
At 5:55 a.m. on July 9, a West U officer was dispatched to the West U Police Department, in reference to a family violence call, which had already occurred. Information was gathered and a report was generated.
A West U officer was dispatched at 3:48 p.m. on July 9 to a residence in the
4200 block of Albans in reference to a case of identity theft. The victim stated an unknown person(s) had used his personal identifying information to open a PayPal credit account and a Sprint cellular account without his consent.
