On May 9, 2015, dreams become realities for hundreds of Challenger Little Leaguers across Texas when they travel to Baylor Ballpark in Waco.

This event provides kids with physical and mental challenges with the opportunity to live a true Division I college baseball experience. The players will be taking the field with the Baylor baseball players and coaches, marching in with their own introductory  song, having their names echo throughout the stadium’s P.A. system, and even having their photos appear on the ballpark video board.

These are just a few of the highlights for the participants of the 2015 Shriners Hospitals for Children Baseball Classic sponsored by Blue Bell Ice Cream and the Elite Sports Medicine of Waco.

The Challenger Team is going to a tournament next week in Waco.

All of this, including jerseys for the participants and coaches, are provided free of charge. Through the concerted efforts of Founder and Chairman Dustin Johnson along with the Baylor University community, these kids are given an opportunity to play out their baseball dreams and create memories that will last a lifetime. Under Armour has been providing the free jerseys for the Shriners Hospitals for Children Baseball Classic.

A 14-player team from West University Place’s Challenger Division will be participating in the tournament.

The Team and heir trip is being sponsored by the“West University Little League Challenger Division Grant Fund,” which has been made possible by the generous donations of organizations like West U Little League Gala Fund Raising, West U Rotary as well as donations from individuals over the years.

The West U Challenger Division, founded in 2006,  Is made up of eight 8 teams with approximately 120 players. Several are middle schools and high schools send “buddies” to help the Challenger players on the field. High School Baseball Teams from Lamar, Strake Jesuit, Bellaire, St. Johns, St. Thomas and & St. Pius also have volunteered to join our Challenger Players on the field, helping them play the game and cheering them on to victory.

This is the fourth year that a West U Challenger team has participated in the tournament.
