West U Police on Friday nabbed two thieves, after an alert resident noticed one of them stealing a package from his front porch. The theft occurred in the 2800 block of Albans, where the complainant advised police that he observed the suspect entering the passenger door of a vehicle with a package in his hands, and the vehicle drive off. Police officers arrived in the area of the theft, and found the suspects’ vehicle unoccupied. Several minutes later, the two suspects were seen walking back to the vehicle. After further investigation, one of the two suspects confessed to stealing two packages and was arrested for theft. The second suspect was arrested for operating a motor vehicle without a driver’s license during the offense.
West U Police also responded to two motor vehicle burglaries that were reported Saturday morning, one in the 3700 block of Robinhood, and another in the 3800 block of Coleridge. In other cases, unknown suspects smashed vehicle windows and rummaged through the vehicles. In the incident on Coleridge, the victim stated that an unknown person had removed two guns from his unsecured vehicle. Unknown suspects also smashed the window and rummaged through another vehicle on Coleridge, but did not take anything.
A West U officer arrested a driver for driving without a license or proof of insurance in the 5700 block of Academy on Saturday morning. The officer conducted a traffic stop on the driver of the vehicle, which had a defective tail light.
