WULL Seniors to Defend Title Saturday

The West U Little League Seniors will defend their World Series championship in a game Saturday against the East Holmes Little League from Holmes County, Ohio.

A “watch party” for the game will be held at Little Matt’s on Edloe, at 10:30 a..m. The first pitch happens at 11 a.m. on ESPN2. Jim Reid, the owner of Little Matt’s, is a longtime support of West U Little League.

The West U Seniors have a group of players from last year with the experience needed to win another world championship. This West University Place team would become the first team to win back-to-back world titles since the World Series has been in Bangor

The WULL Seniors also would become the first league to win three World Series titles in Bangor. The others were in 2009 and 2014.

West U pitcher John Doxakis led the team to a 4-1 victory in the semi-final game against Upper Moreland L.L., from Upper Moreland, Pennsylvania.

Doxakis finished his start, going the distance for the Texans and finishing with five strikeouts on five hits and no earned runs in seven innings.

West U Little League Senior Manager Clint Sauls said that bringing home the second championship trophy “would be a tremendous honor.We love this tournament.”
