Local News

The city of West University Place’s 26th annual Christmas Tree Lighting Ceremony will be held on December 1, at 6104 Auden Street. Festivities will begin at 5:30 p.m., with delicious hot drinks and sweet treats.

There will be a cookie decorating station at a craft table, and kids can then meet one of Santa’s reindeer in the courtyard of the Community Building.

The Christmas Tree Lighting Ceremony will commence at 6 p.m. Some of the West U Recreation Center children’s programs will perform and sing along with the St. Andrews Presbyterian Church choirs.

Also, the winners of the annual Christmas coloring contest will be announced. To enter the Coloring Contest, visit the West University Recreation Center, 4210 Bellaire Blvd. to pick up your contest form.

Then join the crowd and watch the tree magically light up as the group starts the count down. When the fire truck siren sounds, it’s a signal of Santa’s arrival. Kids will have a chance to sit on Santa’s lap and tell him their Christmas wishes. Don’t forget to bring a camera, as precious memories will abound.

Please note that Auden Street will be closed from Amherst to Rice starting at 3:30 p.m. and will reopen at 9 p.m. Also, Milton Street will be open for parking but there will be no access to Auden.

For more information, contact the West University Recreation Center with questions at 713.662.7420.

Dear Santa. Please bring our Mayor and City Council new brains. We also need a new City Manager and City Attorney. Thank you, Santa.
