A slight increase in water rates is on Monday’s agenda of the West University Place City Council. The council will meet at 6:10 p.m. in the Municipal Building at 3800 University Blvd.
Because of an increase in surface water rates from the city of Houston, West U residents will see their water rates increase by about 59 cents per month for 12,000 gallons of water. The council will consider that rate increase. The rate change would take effect May 1, if approved by council.
The council also will consider a zoning change that will allow the Judson Tennis Court to be rebuilt, with the identical “footprint” of the existing court. The current court was built before changes to West U’s current zoning ordinance, so a new court would not be in compliance with the city’s zoning. The council has previously approved zoning variances — at Colonial Park and the Rec Center — when those projects were built.
The council also will consider a proclamation designating April 12 as Arbor Day in West University Place. The city was recently notified that West U has received its 24th annual designation as a Tree City USA from the National Arbor Day Foundation.
Arbor Day festivities will be held at 9 a.m.April 12 at the West U Rec Center, along with the annual Eggstravaganza. The first 30 West U residents who attend will receive a complimentary tree.
