You Can Cut Class Friday to Pray

April 15, 2014

The Houston Independent School District will hold classes on this Friday, April 18, 2014, as a bad weather make-up day.

However, HISD has clarified what to do if parents are observing Good Friday as a religious Holy Day. Parents can give their school attendance office a written excuse that documents the religious observance, and/or an artifact from the religious observance attended. The written excuse must be received at the school within three days.

Students who are not in attendance at school on Friday, April 18, 2014 will be counted absent by their classroom teachers. Once written documentation has been received, the absence will be changed to reflect a religious exemption. This designation will not affect students with perfect attendance.
