WULL Seniors Win Again, with 11-3 score over Italy
The West U Seniors’ bats exploded in the eighth inning Tuesday, leading the undefeated team to an 11-3 win over the Italian team.
But the game was a real nail-biter, as the two teams traded the lead or stayed even, during the Senior World Series in Bangor, Maine.
The WULL Seniors have now won three games in the World Series. West U’s boys of summer are off today, and will play again at 7 p.m. Thursday against the championship team from Latin America.
West U’s team are the Southwest Regional Champions, and the Italians are the Europe-Africa Champions
Andrew Hoffman was the starting pitcher Tuesday, striking out 4 in 3 innings while allowing 2 hits and walking 2. Jacob Millender came in in relief, pitching 4.1 innings, and held the team from Emilia, Italy scoreless for the rest of the game.
The WULL Seniors scored one run in the second, and fourth innings. But the Italians scored three runs in the bottom of the fourth inning, to lead the game 3-2 for a while. West U came back with a run in the fifth inning, but the tie score stayed in place until West U’s batters went wild.
An eight-run explosion in the eighth inning led West U t to their 11-3 win.
West U scored in the eighth on an RBI single by Julian Cranfield, an RBI single by Jimmy Winston, an RBI single by Jacob Millender, a sacrifice fly byJohn Doxakis, a two-run single by Owen Holt, an RBI double by William James, and an error.
Holt racked up three RBIs on four hits for Southwest.
The Italians couldn’t get any hits with Millender on the hill. Millender gave up just three hits, allowed no earned runs, walked none and struck out five during his 4 1/3 innings of work.
