Winter Camp Teaches Kids About Nature
The Houston Arboretum and Nature Center is offering a four-day event designed to keep the education flowing while kids are on their winter breaks from school.
The Winter Break Camp takes place Dec. 28 to 31 and teaches children how to use their senses to explore the natural world. Many of the spots are already filled, but there may still be seats for children age 9 to 12.
Kids can learn how snakes smell with their tongue, butterflies taste with their feet, crickets hear with their knees, raccoons hunt at night using their sense of touch, and how some animals can see in the dark. Each day students investigate one of their senses and explore how animals and plants use these same senses. Students will create models or crafts based on the concepts taught.
