Wind Advisory in Effect for Much of Day
West U and the entire Houston area will be under a wind advisory from 10 a.m. through 7 p.m. today.
In issuing the advisory, the National Weather Service said high southerly winds of between 15 -25 mph, with gusts to 35 mph, can be expected later this morning and through the afternoon hours.
Strong crosswinds could impact high-profile vehicles, blow around lightweight objects and cause some isolated tree damage. Drivers of vans, campers, trailers and other high-profile vehicles should be alert to the danger of the winds, especially when driving on east-to-west oriented roads.
The winds will be triggered by a very tight surface pressure gradient across the state. Winds are expected to die down shortly before sunset.
