West U’s City Currents Newsletter Wins TAMI Award
The City of West U has received a finalist award for the production of its City Currents newsletter.
The city placed third for the 2012 TAMI Award for External Newsletters for cities with under 50,000 population.
Awards were announced at the Texas Association of Municipal Information Officers (TAMIO) Conference, held in Round Rock on June 21 – 22. This was the first year to submit City Currents into the competition.
Since April 1974, West U has kept its residents informed on city happenings through use of the mailed newsletter. The first issue declared that the aim of the newsletter was “to emphasize only activities and factual information we consider important to our residents.”
Today, announcements ranging from upcoming events, to important city information are provided to residents each quarter.
City Currents issues are mailed to residents based on current utility billing records. Residents may also receive an electronic copy of the newsletter via e-mail. The current issue of City Currents, as well as archived issues, can be found at www.westutx.gov/citycurrents.
TAMIO is an affiliate of the Texas Municipal League, which represents some 98 percent of Texas’ urban population through its more than 1,000 member cities and towns. The City of West University Place is a member of TML.
