West University Little League Challengers Games Underway
West University Place Little League Challenger games are underway. The first game of the season kicked off March 28.
Challenger games will be hosted on Sunday’s at 2 p.m. on April 18, April 25, May 2, May 16 and May 23.
On May 2, there will be a special celebration honoring the 2009 World Series Champions and the PCA Coaches of the Year prior to the Challenger games, starting at 1:15 p.m.
General Manager Bob McLamb, Manager Trey Cornelius, and Coaches Will McDaniel and Scotty Zornes traveled to Stanford University on April 17 for a Positive Coaching Alliance ceremony where they received their Coaches of the Year award. PCA board chair, John Wallace, will honor them before the hometown crowd on May 2 followed by the World Series ring presentation to each of the players on the team.
Pastor DaRhonda Williams of Everlasting Covenant Church will give the invocation then the National Anthem sung by AOS middle school student Mia Simon (daughter of Judy and Chris Simon – he was one of the co-chairs of Challenger) then Mayor Bob Kelly will throw the first pitch and the games will begin.
Challenger baseball has grown from 48 players and about 100 buddies in 2005 to 120 players and over 250 buddies this season.
