West University Elementary Students Have Madcap Fun with Charitable Project
Today, students at West University Elementary school were encouraged to wear crazy, mismatched socks, shoes and hats as part of the weeklong service project Shoes That Fit, which is associated with the national organization by the same name.
Called Just For Kicks, students brought spare change from their own piggy banks to help raise funds to provide low-income HISD students with well-fitting socks and shoes. Last year, Just For Kicks raised more than $1,500, which allowed the project team leaders to purchase an additional 70 pairs of shoes on top of the 911 pairs of shoes and 4,000 pairs of socks that WUES families donated.
