August 28, 2012

West University Elementary welcomed more than 1,200 new and returning students on Monday.

The halls were filled with many bright and shining faces, eager to begin a new year of what Principal John Threet calls “excellent learning.” There were some wistful faces, too; parents whose eldest children were entering kindergarten, and some whose children were taking on responsible new roles such as the fifth grade safety patrol—all signs of their little ones growing up.

Speaking of signs, please remember the traffic ordinance designed to make the area around the school safer while school is in session. Drivers may not use a cell phone or other electronic communication device in a school zone during active school zone times.

The City of West University Place bans all texting while driving at all times whether you are in a school zone or not.
