West U to Appoint New Fire Chief Tonight

April 22, 2013

The West U City Council will appoint a new fire chief tonight to replace long-time Fire Chief Steve Ralls, who is retiring.

According to tonight’s council agenda, Assistant Chief/Fire Marshal Aaron Taylor is being appointed as the new fire chief for the City of West U. His new position will go into effect immediately.

The council is also expected to approve a resolution naming Ralls as Fire Chief Emeritus because of his distinguished service to the city, according to the agenda.

Ralls is retiring in June after 39 years of service with the city. He has served as the city’s fire chief for the last 10 years.

“Chief Ralls has been an invaluable Chief of the Fire Department and the city is forever thankful to Chief Ralls for his 39 years of service,” City Manager Michael Ross told InstantNewsWestU.com.

Taylor was hired by the city in 2005 and was promoted to assistant chief in 2007. He will take over as fire chief once the city council approves the appointment.

“We are proud to announce Chief Taylor’s promotion to Fire Chief and look forward to many years of service from Chief Taylor.  This promotion is an excellent example of the city’s goal of proper succession planning,” Ross said.

The city council will meet tonight at 6:30 p.m. in the council chamber, 3800 University.
