West U Residents No Longer Need to Sort Recyclables
The City of West U is implementing single steam recycling and residents will no longer have to sort recyclables before putting them out at the curb.
Single stream recycling will start Monday, Feb. 20.
Residents will now be able to place all their recycling in the one bin: paper, cardboard, plastic (1-5, 7) aluminum, glass and bi-metals (and lids & bottle tops). Residents are asked not put plastic bags in with your as they can damage machinery at the recycling facility.
Single steam recycling will make it easier for residents to recycle, maximize the use of the bins and will also increase operational efficiencies for the City.
On Saturday, Feb. 18, city volunteers will be distributing a door hanger to every home in West U that will provide detailed information for recycling all materials in one bin as well as other useful recycling information.
Implementing single stream is expected to not only affect the types of materials being recycled, but will save residents’ time as there is less sorting.
