West U victim in mass shooting remains in critical condition

Some of you may know Kevin Chap, a West U resident and doctor, who lives on Dartmouth Street. According to friends, he remains in critical condition after being caught Monday in the mass shooting near Weslayan Plaza.

Chap was shot in the neck while he was driving to work. After the gunshot injury, a police officer carried Chap to safety. He reportedly suffered serious damage — some of it not detected until the following day — to major arteries. Friends said that he had originally survived by applying pressure to his gunshot wound, but that he still lost a great deal of blood.

Chap is a husband and a father of three children. His friends have set up an online account to help with his growing medical expenses, and raised $40,000 toward a $50,000 goal in eight hours Thursday. To learn more about his situation or to contribute, go to https://www.gofundme.com/2rx8wxv4
