West U Resident Gets Swindled By Nonprofit Solicitor
A West U resident reported a theft to police after she gave money to someone who claimed to be a non-profit solicitor.
A solicitor came to the home in the 2700 block of Barbara Lane on July 31, asking for donations to a nonprofit organization called Hands Up Distribution, police said.
The resident gave the solicitor a couple hundred dollars and was told she would have 72 hours to change her mind about the donation. The check was cashed within 24 hours, police said.
Police believe that the solicitor was not employed by the organization at the time of the donation.
This incident is still under investigation.
