West U. Recycling Now Accepting Additional Plastics

July 18, 2008

Beginning today the City of West University Place will accept plastics #1, 2, 3, 4, 5, and 7’s for curbside collection and at RecyclExpress. Currently, West U collects plastics #1 and 2, but due in part to the high price of oil the recycling market has opened up new doors for plastics #3, 4, 5 and 7.

This means the city will now accept the following plastics: bottles, jars, milk, water, juice, soft drink, beer, salad dressing, condiments, cooking oil, sauces, squeezable bottles, detergent, medicine, mouthwash, cosmetic, shampoo bottles, cat litter, yogurt, butter, ice cream and coffee can lids.

West U. will not accept the following plastics: all #6 plastics, Styrofoam, plastic bags, packaging material, meat and food trays, food wrap, toys and furniture.

For more information, visit the city’s Web site at www.westu.org and click the recycling link.
