West U Police Urge Caution After Burglary

June 3, 2015

On June 1, West University Place police officers were dispatched to the 6100 block of Kirby in reference to a burglary of a habitation that took place on May 31. The homeowner advised that an unknown man knocked on his front door and stated that he had been hired by his neighbor to cut their trees. The unknown man then stated that he would need access to the backyard in order to inspect the trees and to explain what he was going to do. The resident and the unknown man went to the back yard.

While they were in the back yard, a second man entered through the front door and saw the victim’s wife. The second man stated to her that he was the first man who originally came in, and said that he needed to look for any leaks inside the house. He looked throughout the house quickly and then left. The victim observed both men leave in a newer model red F-150. The subjects were described to be about 5’9” with a light brown skin tone. The victims discovered $200 was missing from their home.

The West U Police Department advises residents to immediately report any suspicious persons or activity. When it is safe to do so, gather as much information as possible (description of vehicle to include make, model, color, license plate, direction of travel; as well as a description of suspicious persons: including gender, race, attire, or any unique characteristics.)

The Police Department also urges residents to use caution when allowing strangers into their homes or property.  If you have any information or to report a crime, please contact the West U Police Department at 713-668-0330 or 9-1-1, if it is an emergency.
