West U Police Officer Injured in Morning Car Chase
A West U police officer was injured early this morning in a car chase that ended with the suspect in handcuffs.
According to West U police reports, an officer noticed a vehicle driving northbound in the 5900 block of Community at a slow rate of speed with no lights on.
When the officer tried to conduct a traffic stop, the vehicle fled and chased police into the City of Bellaire.
The suspect vehicle “rammed” a West U Police Department vehicle and injured an officer, the report said. The officer involved in the incident is Officer Zurita. The police department did not release his first name. Police officials said the officer sustained minor injuries and was taken to Memorial Hermann Hospital. He was later released.
The chase continued into the City of Houston onto Highway 290 where he reportedly drove in the wrong direction, crashed his vehicle and fled on foot.
Marcus York, a LaMarque resident, was apprehended in the parking lot of the Northwest Houston Police Substation.
York was charged with aggravated assault against a public servant and evading arrest/detention with a vehicle.
He is currently being held at the Harris County Jail. Bond has not been set.
According to documents on file with the Harris County District Clerk’s Office, York’s criminal history includes burglary of habitation and theft.
