West U Parks to Close Temporarily for Redevelopment
Two West U parks will be closed for redevelopment for about two weeks.
Whitt Johnson Park will be closed beginning Monday, Jan. 28 while crews work to install a new 2-to-5-year-old play system and refurbish the 5-to-12-year old equipment on the northwest side of the park. A new water fountain will also be installed, along with paver work and drainage improvements.
Colonial Park playground will be closed starting Monday, Feb. 4.
The park is getting a new seesaw, Talk Tubes, Fun-Semble and RockScape Spider Web Climber. The engineered wood fiber will also be topped off, along with refreshing of the sand boxes and sand volleyball court.
During this time, portions of the parks will be open in the afternoons when the crews have finished for the day. For safety purposes, no one is permitted to enter the fenced in construction areas at any time.
Funding for the new play ground equipment and refurbishment was provided by the Friends of West University Place Parks Fund, Inc. though fundraising events such as the Fathers and Flashlights, Park Lovers’ Ball, community partnerships, and the park pavers program.
