“My plan has always been to stand for re-election. I have led a council very effective in listening to our citizens and maintaining the highest level of customer service from all city employees and elected officials,” Fry said in a statement. “I believe my commitment to service to our community over a long period makes me the best person to continue to lead the city as mayor.”

When asked what he would like to accomplish if re-elected to a second term as mayor, Fry said the council does not have a lot of upcoming issues to deal with.

“We’re in good shape,” he said.

West U residents will elect a mayor and council on May 11. They will also vote on proposed amendments to the city’s charter, including changing council’s term limits from two terms to three.

Fry said three terms would be beneficial to the city, but he is neutral in his support of the amendment.

Fry has served as West U’s mayor for the past two years and served as mayor pro tem four years prior to that.  During that time, he served as President of the Harris County Mayor’s and Council’s Association, as a voting member of the Houston-Galveston Area Council Transportation Policy Council representing Harris County Smaller Cities, and is a member of the HGAC Board of Directors.
