West U Man Will Lead Port of Houston
A resident of West University Place last week was appointed executive director of the Port of Houston Authority.
Alec Dreyer will be Houston’s 10th port director in 90 years, but he’s the first with no previous experience in the maritime industry.
“He not only has an exemplary business track record but also brings a fresh, new perspective to the port authority,” said Chairman James Edmonds in a statement. “The Port Commission believes that his business acumen will further advance PHA’s mandate to create economic development and jobs through maritime commerce.”
The Port Commission chose Dreyer after conducting a national search to replace 17-year Executive Director Thomas Kornegay, who retired in February.
Dreyer has worked in the energy, green energy and finance fields, most recently as chief executive officer of Houston-based Horizon Wind Energy. He serves as chairman of the Board of Comverge, a clean energy company that works with electric utilities. He serves on the board of EcoSecurities Group, which develops and trades carbon credits. Dreyer is a certified public accountant in Illinois and Missouri.
“I am looking forward to using my background in business to help advance the port and to serve the community,” said Dreyer in the statement.
