West U Little League Seniors nab another state title; Juniors poised to make it two
By Mike Tenney
One West University Little League All-Star team returned home from the Texas East state tournament in Tyler Tuesday night, and one did not because they still have some business to finish.
The West University Little League Senior team was the group that got to come back to Houston Tuesday night and once again, they are the Texas East Little League Senior State champions after defeating Barbers Hill, 11-1, Tuesday night at Faulkner Park in Tyler.
The win wraps up a perfect 3-0 run through the tournament and sends the two-time defending World Champions on to this Saturday’s Southwest Regional in Seguin. With a tournament win in Seguin, their next and final stop would be in Bangor, Maine, where they would play for a third straight World Series title.
Meanwhile at pretty much same time and just one field over, the West University Juniors won a wild 12-10 game over Bridge City. They will play a one-game, winner-take-all contest, 10 a.m. Wednesday back at Faulkner Park.
The winner of that game will to the Juniors Southwest Regional in Colorado starting this weekend.
The WULL Juniors defeated Lufkin Monday night to get to the championship round against Bridge City, which they needed to beat twice to advance to the Juniors Southwest Regional. Those teams have played each other twice in the state tournament with each winning a game.
