West U Gas Prices Down By Almost a Dime – Average Now at $3.26 per Gallon

September 27, 2011

Average retail gasoline prices in West U have fallen by almost a dime in the past week.

The price for unleaded regular dropped by 9.8 cents per gallon to an average of $3.26 per gallon as of yesterday.

The local decrease compares with a national average that fell 7.1 cents to $3.53 per gallon, according to gasoline price website HoustonGasPrices.com.

Senior Petroleum Analyst Patrick DeHaan said the price drop came on the heels of lower crude oil and gasoline futures, but the drop may not last.

“Last week saw an impressive decline in crude oil and gasoline futures, and accordingly, motorists in most areas of the U.S. have seen retail gasoline prices decline. In some areas, prices have outright plunged to under $3 per gallon,” DeHaan said. “While social networking sites are abuzz about the decline, be warned that the market does remain extremely sensitive to geopolitical issues and refinery maintenance season is right around the corner.”

Including the change in gas prices in West U during the past week, prices yesterday were 74.6 cents per gallon higher than the same day one year ago but 14.8 cents per gallon lower than a month ago.

The national average has decreased 7.2 cents per gallon during the last month and stands 82.9 cents per gallon higher than this day one year ago.
