West U Fire Department Offering Child Safety Seat Checks
The West U Fire Department is offering a new service to residents – child safety seat checks.
In October, six firefighters received formal training and have been certified as Child Passenger Safety (CPS) Technicians.
West U’s CPS Technicians are certified to install child safety seats, conduct child safety seat checks, and provide hands-on assistance to parents and caregivers with proper use of child restraint systems and safety belts. Each CPS Technician is trained in crash dynamics, injury prevention strategies, child restraint selection and installation and vehicle occupant protection.
CPS Technicians are available to meet with residents between the hours of 9 – 11 a.m. and 10 – 5 p.m., seven days a week. Appointments can be made by calling 713-662-5835.
CPS Technicians are certified by Safe Kids USA through the National Child Passenger Safety Certification Training Program. The National Standardized Child Passenger Safety Training curriculum was developed and maintained by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration. The program has certified over 34,000 people in the United States as child passenger safety technicians and instructors since the program began in 1997.
