West U. Elementary Students Collect More Than 1,000 Teddy Bears For Cancer Patients (with photos)

May 27, 2009

“Bring a Bear and Show You Care” was the theme for West U. Elementary’s final service project for the 2008/2009 academic year. More than 1,100 lovable teddy bears made their way into the arms of children hospitalized at M.D. Anderson Cancer Center, Ben Taub Hospital, LBJ Hospital and Texas Children’s Hospital to show that West U. Elementary students care and to make their hospital stays more “bearable.” Coordinating the project was Katie Hwu, PTO service chair.

Pupils in Mrs. Unger’s second-grade class joined fellow schoolmates at West U. Elementary in collecting teddy bears for children in area hospitals.
