West U Elementary Collects 12,000 Used Books for Students at Sister Schools

May 3, 2012

Students, parents and teachers at West University Elementary School collected more than 12,000 gently used books this week during the school’s second annual used book drive.

West University Elementary fourth graders sort books in the school cafeteria. More than 12,000 books collected through the used book drive will be distributed to students at three sister schools.

The books will be distributed to the students at Rusk, Shearn, and Bonham Elementary schools based on reading level and interest.

The drive ends on Friday, but already the number of books collected is more than twice the number that volunteers expected.

“I’m so proud of our families and faculty for their efforts,” Event chair Amy Barnes said. “More than 1,500 children will now have books to read over the summer.”
