The five contests were held at the school between November 2011 and March 2012. Students individually solve challenging, non-routine math puzzles in each contest, and prizes are awarded for team and individual performance. Team scores are composed of the scores of the team’s 10 top performers.

This year, West University Elementary entered a team composed of both fourth and graders, which scored 161 out of a possible 250. The top individual scorers for this year were: Joshua Tsai (who scored in the top 2 percent of worldwide participants,) Pratik Pohuja, Patrick Han, William He, Noah Ryan, Andrew Alexander, Shomik Ghose, Daanish Sheikh, Bao Dong, and Nicholas Balbin.

WUES placed among the top 20 percent of all fifth grade teams that participated in the contest, and was added to the Grade Five National Meritorious Achievement List for this accomplishment.
