WEST U CRIME: Theft, Burglary, DOA
Death Investigation :At 1:08 p.m. an officer was dispatched to the 2600 block of Talbot in regard to a death.
An officer observed a suspicious vehicle parked at a business in the 5700 block of Kirby Drive. The vehicle was subsequently stopped in the 2600 block of Bissonnet. It was discovered that the driver/operator of the vehicle had an outstanding warrant for his arrest. The driver was arrested.
At 8:37 a.m., an officer was dispatched to the 3000 block of Cason in reference to theft of a motor vehicle. A resident stepped out of their home and discovered their vehicle missing.
Attempted burglary of motor vehicle
A patrol officer observed suspicious vehicle in the 4100 block of Rice, stopped on the roadway, facing east, next to a few cars parked on the street. The marked police unit turned its headlights off and proceeded in the direction of the vehicle to investigate. The suspect vehicle, with its brake lights engaged, observed the headlights go off, and immediately left the area quickly, speeding away. The vehicle attempted to lose the police unit by making several turns. The vehicle was subsequently stopped on traffic and after investigation it was discovered that the driver and its two passenger occupants were in the area, with the intent to break into vehicles. The suspects burglarized one vehicle from the original location where they were observed, by popping the driver side door lock to gain entry. The front seat passenger was charged with burglary of a motor vehicle (criminal attempt), and the driver was booked on municipal charges. The rear passenger was released at the scene.
At 9:33 am, an officer was dispatched to the 4100 block of Albans in reference to a case of identity theft. Upon the officers arrival, the victim stated an unknown person(s) used his social security number and opened a Wal-Mart discover credit account without his consent.
Credit Card / Debit Card Abuse
An officer was dispatched to the police station lobby located 3800 University in regards to credit card abuse. Upon arrival the officer met with the victim who stated that an unknown person(s) used a fraudulent credit card that has the victim’s current credit card number. The victim stated she became aware of this incident when she checked her bank statement online and learned that the suspect(s) used the fraudulent credit card at multiple department stores.
An officer, was dispatched to the 4100 block of Lehigh in reference to identity theft. Upon contact with the complainant, the officer discovered that someone had stolen the complainants identifying information for the purpose of opening an account.
Possession of Narcotics
At 1:24 pm, an officer observed a vehicle traveling southbound in the 6600 block of Vanderbilt at a high rate of speed and without a license plate attached to the rear of the vehicle. A traffic stop was conducted in the 6700 block of Vanderbilt and after further investigation the driver was arrested for the offense of possession of marijuana.
Minor Accident / failure to stop & Give Information
At 8:36 pm, an officer was dispatched to the 2900 block of Lafayette in regards to a minor accident, fail to stop and give info, that already occurred. Upon further investigation, it was discovered that an unknown person(s), in a vehicle, struck the victim’s parked vehicle, and fled the scene without giving notice. Information was gathered and a report was generated.
