West U Crime Report
West U Police last week investigated three cases of identity theft involving fraudulent federal tax returns filed with the Internal Revenue Service, and two cases of residents threatening suicide.
On Friday, April 3, at 3:25pm, an officer was dispatched to the 3000 block of Albans for a case of identity theft. The victims stated they received a letter from the IRS requesting them to verify their identity for their 2014 federal income tax return. The victims stated they have not filed their 2014 federal income tax return.
On Monday, April 6, a West U officer was dispatched to the 4200 block of Bellaire Blvd. to meet a Bellaire officer to pick up a subject with outstanding warrants with The City of West University Place. Upon the officer’s arrival, the subject was placed in custody and transported to The West University Place Police Department jail.
Later that day, officers were dispatched to a residence located in 4000 block of Milton in regards to a welfare check. Upon arrival the officers spoke to a subject at the residence who stated he wanted to end his life. The subject cooperated with the officers in which they were able to detain him and was then transported to the Harris County Neuropsychiatric Center.
At 2:23 p.m. on Monday, April 6, a police officer observed a vehicle traveling westbound in the 3700 block of Tangley with a defective driver’s side brake light. After further investigation, it was discovered the driver of the vehicle had a suspended driver’s license and had no proof of financial responsibility. The driver was arrested for driving while license invalid.
At 6:30 p.m. on April 6, a West U officer met with a resident at the police department for a report of an identity theft that already occurred. Upon further investigation, it was discovered that an unknown subject(s) used the victim’s personal identifying information to file a fraudulent tax return.
On Tuesday, a West U officer met with another victim of ID theft at the police department. The victim stated an unknown person(s) used her personal identifying information to file a fictitious IRS income tax return.
Also on Tuesday, officers were dispatched to the 6600 block of Buffalo Speedway in regard to a burglary in progress. Officers arrived on scene and spoke with the victim who advised that an unknown subject kicked in her door and possibly fled on foot or a skateboard east bound in the 3100 block of Cason. After further investigation, entry was not made into the residence. A report of criminal mischief was generated.
At 4:01 p.m. on Tuesday, a police officer observed a vehicle in the 5800 block of Edloe run a stop sign. A traffic stop was conducted in the 5900 block of Edloe. The police officer spoke with the driver and after further investigation the driver received a citation for running a stop sign, minor in possession of tobacco and possession of drug paraphernalia. The front right passenger received a citation for minor in possession of tobacco.
On Wednesday, April 8, an officer observed a vehicle traveling westbound in the 4100 block of Bissonnet. The vehicle displayed an expired registration sticker (4/14) and subsequently a traffic stop was conducted in the 1000 block of Mulberry for the violation. Upon investigation it was discovered the driver was operating the vehicle on a suspended license. Subsequently the driver was taken into custody for driving while license suspended.
At 9:26 a.m. on Thursday, April 9, an officer was dispatched to the 3700 block of Tangley for a burglary of a motor vehicle. The officer met with the victim who said that sometime between 2 p.m. on Wednesday and 9 a.m. on Thursday, an unknown person(s) entered his vehicle and detached/removed his radio player from the dashboard and a pair of sunglasses from the center console.
On April 9, an officer was dispatched to the 6700 block of Belmont for a suicide threat. After further investigation the subject was transported to Methodist Hospital for admittance.
Also on Thursday, an officer was dispatched to 3800 Milton in regard to an unknown vehicle striking a motor vehicle. A report for failure to stop and give information was generated.
