West U Crime Report
West University Place police officers arrested three people for public intoxication and two people for driving while intoxicated this week.
On March 6, officers were dispatched to the 3800 block of Milton for a report of a subject passed out in an illegally parked vehicle. Officers arrived on-scene and found the subject passed out in a vehicle. The subject had vomited on himself on the ground by the door and inside the vehicle. During an inventory of the vehicle, officers found several items of drug paraphernalia and discovered the subject had a fake Texas driver’s license. The subject was arrested and booked in the West U Jail for public intoxication, possessing drug paraphernalia, and a fake driver’s license.
Also on March 6, an officer went to the 3800 block of University, where a victim reported that an unknown person had struck his vehicle and left no information.
At 3:35 a.m. on March 7, a West U officer was dispatched to the 3100 block of University, where a vehicle had run off the road. Upon arrival, the officer discovered that the vehicle was still running and the driver was not coherent. The driver was arrested for DWI.
A West U officer on March 7 observed a vehicle traveling in the 6500 block of Buffalo Speedway, at a speed greater than the posted 30 mph. A traffic stop was conducted in the 3100 block of Pittsburg and after further investigation the driver was arrested for the offense of driving while license invalid.
Later that day, officers met with a West U resident are the police station about an Identity Theft. An offense report for credit/debit card abuse was generated.
At 3:11 a.m. on March 8, West U officers were called to the 6400 block of Virginia Court for a report of an intoxicated subject banging on the back door. Officers arrived and found the intoxicated subject had jumped the gate leading into the backyard and he was standing at the back door. During the investigation, if was discovered that the subject’s family had moved away six months ago. The subject was apparently unaware that his family no longer lived at that house. He was issued a citation for public intoxication and released to a sober family member.
On March 9, a West U resident sent to the police station to report an Identity Theft. The complainant stated that unknown person(s) used the victim and her husband’s information to file taxes in December of 2014 without their consent.
On March 10, a West U officer arrested the driver of a vehicle in the 6500 block of Weslayan for having an invalid driver’s license, The officer had noticed that the vehicle did not have a motor vehicle inspection sticker on the front windshield.
West U Police obtained an Emergency Detention Order and transported a woman to the Neuropsychiatric Center at Ben Taub hospital on March 10. A West U officer was attempting to serve a traffic citation in the 3100 block of Holcombe, when the woman opened the rear door of the patrol vehicle and attempted to get inside. It was determined that the woman was a danger to herself or others.
At 1:48 a.m. on March 11, an officer observed a vehicle traveling westbound at a speed of 64 mph in the 30 mph speed zone of the 3600 block of University. A traffic stop was conducted on the vehicle, and upon further investigation it was discovered that the driver was operating a motor vehicle while intoxicated. The driver was arrested for DWI.
Also on March 11, a West U officer observed a vehicle parked with its ignition on in the 6200 block of Rutgers. It was later discovered that there was a subject sleeping in the driver’s seat. The driver was arrested for public intoxication.
At 3:24 p.m. on March 11, a West U officer noticed a vehicle in the 6000 block of Buffalo Speedway without a front license plate. Upon investigation it was discovered the operator of the vehicle was driving on a suspended license. The operator was subsequently was taken into custody for driving while license invalid,
A West U officers also investigated a case of criminal mischief on March 11, in the 2900 block of Carnegie. The officer met with the victim who advised that an unknown person had damaged the back window to their vehicle.
A driver who ran the stop light at Weslayan and Bissonnet at 8:45 on March 12 was arrested for the offense of driving with an invalid license..
A West U officer was dispatched to a residence in the 6500 block of Vanderbilt on March 12, to investigate a case of Credit Card / Debit Card Abuse . The complainant reported that an unknown person had used his credit card to make purchases, without permission, on March 11.
Another case of ID theft was reported on March 12, at the police station. The victim advised an unknown person(s) used his identifying information to file taxes without his consent. The officer collected the necessary information to generate a case for identity theft.
