West U City Manager, City Secretary Receive Two Percent Raise
The West U City Council has approved a pay increase for City Manager Michael Ross and City Secretary Thelma Lenz.
Council met in a closed executive session on Monday, Dec. 3 to evaluate the city manager and city secretary. They then convened into an open session and unanimously approved a two percent pay increase for Ross and Lenz, in addition to a one percent cost of living adjustment, which took effect last January for all employees.
The city council approves salaries for the city manager, city secretary and city attorney. The city manager approves all other city employee salaries.
Ross’s current salary of $191,828 will increase to $195,665, with backpay accruing from August.
Ross has 30 years of experience in municipal government and has served as West U’s city manager for 10 years. He is a member of the Texas City Management Association and a member of the International City Management Association. He currently serves as the Texas Municipal League representative on the TCMA Board.
Lenz’s current salary of $85,804 will increase to $88,396. Her raise goes into effect on Jan. 1, 2013.
Lenz has served as West U’s city secretary for four years. Prior to becoming West U’s city secretary, she served as assistant city secretary for the City of Missouri City for 10 years and administrative secretary to the city manager in West U for three years.
Lenz was recently named Texas Municipal Clerks Association Salt Grass Chapter Municipal Clerk of the Year.
According to the Texas Municipal League, the city manager salary range for cities in and around the metroplexes of Texas is $160,000 – $225,000. The salary range for city secretaries is $73,755 – $99,569.
Mayor Pro Tem Susan Sample said she couldn’t speak for all the city council members, but said they all think they’re doing a good job.
“They are both doing a wonderful job,” she said.
