Mayor Bob Fry proclaimed the week of April 15-21 as Volunteer Week in the City of West U.

Several residents who volunteer with the Good Neighbor Team and WUP Handyman accepted the proclamation.

“These individuals have become a vital and positive force in our community and have demonstrated a common conviction; that charity and social responsibility manifests all that is good in the individual, and the well being of the community is largely dependent on helping others,” the proclamation read in part.

Fry said the group receiving the proclamation is a minor number of residents who volunteer in the city.

“We are a blessed community,” he said. “It’s because of people like this.”

Fry urged all citizens to celebrate this month and to support the efforts of the Senior Services Board, Good Neighbor Team, West University Handymen, Friends of West University Place Parks, Parks and Recreation Board and the many other volunteer organizations that serve the greater good of the West University Place community.
