West U Burglary Suspect Still at Large
A burglary suspect that put the entire city of West U on alert late Thursday afternoon is still at large, police say.
West U residents received a CodeRed Emergency Notification from the city around 5 p.m. to “shelter in place” because a burglary suspect was on foot and was seen “jumping through fences of backyards.”
Police responded to a burglary in progress at the intersection of Pittsburg and Belmont around 4:24 p.m. where the suspect was fleeing the scene, according to police reports.
“A perimeter was established and assistance from other agencies was requested. After an exhaustive search of the area with multiple officers and K-9 officers the suspect was not located and the search was terminated,” police said.
Residents received a second emergency notification around 7 p.m. announcing that the “shelter in place” alert had been lifted.
As of this morning, the burglary suspect was still on the loose, Capt. Thad Olive told InstantNewsWestU.com.
The suspect is described as a 24-25-year-old black male and was last seen wearing a white short-sleeve shirt, white pants and white shoes.
If seen, residents are asked to call police at 713-668-0330 or 911.
