West U Area Under Flash Flood Watch Until 4 p.m.

July 12, 2012

The National Weather service has issued a flash flood watch for the West U area until 4 p.m.

A flash flood warning has also been issued until 9:45 a.m. for parts of Harris County.

As of this morning, West U has received 0.56 inches of rainfall, according to a monitoring station at Brays Bayou and Stella Link Road.

Grounds are becoming increasingly saturated from the past several days of rainfall and are more susceptible to flash flooding, forecasters said.

The Houston area has seen several days of moderate to occasional heavy rain and the vast amount of concrete will allow for rapid runoff with heavy rainfall, according to the weather service.

A flash flood watch means that conditions may develop that lead to flash flooding.

Flash flooding is a very dangerous situation and residents are urged to monitor later forecasts and be prepared to take action should flash flood warnings be issued.

Motorists are warned to no drive into areas where the water covers the roadway. The water depth may be too great to allow cars to cross safely.
