West U Area Gas Prices Drop by Almost a Nickel
Average retail gasoline prices in West U area have fallen 4.9 cents per gallon in the past week, averaging $3.52 yesterday.
The local price compares with a national average that dropped 2.4 cents in the last week to $3.79 per gallon, according to gasoline price website HoustonGasPrices.com.
GasBuddy.com senior petroleum analyst Patrick DeHaan said the downward trend in prices normally seen in the autumn months has not occurred this year.
“We just haven’t seen any sort of real decline at the pump yet this autumn. This year has seen one of the warmest ever – temperatures and gasoline prices alike,” DeHaan said. “High temperatures have been blamed on global warming, perhaps we’re seeing a long term ‘pump warming’ equivalent at retail pumps. Either way, the small drop in gasoline prices isn’t to the satisfaction of many, and I don’t see enough relief to satisfy the majority of American motorists any time soon.”
Including the change in gas prices in West U area during the past week, prices yesterday were 35.1 cents per gallon higher than the same day one year ago and are 11.6 cents per gallon lower than a month ago.
The national average has decreased 0.8 cents per gallon during the last month and stands 33.2 cents per gallon higher than this day one year ago.
