West U Appoints New Fire Chief

April 23, 2013

The City of West U has a new fire chief.

The West U City Council appointed Assistant Chief Aaron Taylor as Fire Chief Monday night and Chief Steve Ralls as Fire Chief Emeritus. Ralls is retiring in June after 39 years of service.

“We have a very special occasion tonight appointing our new fire chief,” Mayor Bob Fry said.

Fry administered the oath of office to Taylor in front of his wife and several fire department employees.

“I look forward to the opportunity to serve the city in this capacity,” Taylor said.

Taylor has worked for the city since 2005 and was promoted to assistant chief in 2007. He also served as the city’s fire marshal. As of last night, he is now the city’s new fire chief.

Chief Ralls’ new title of Fire Chief Emeritus allows him to stay on and provide backup to the department until his June retirement.

“Chief Ralls, it’s been my pleasure to work with you,” Fry said. “I’m going to miss you and I’m sorry to see you go.”

Fry said that Ralls is leaving the department in good condition. He has served as fire chief for the last 10 years.

City Manager Michael Ross said that he couldn’t say enough about Ralls’ service and dedication to the city.

“Chief Ralls has been an invaluable Chief of the Fire Department and the city is forever thankful to Chief Ralls for his 39 years of service,” City Manager Michael Ross told InstantNewsWestU.com.
