West U 13s takes district, sectional banners with unblemished record
With a perfect 6-0 record and only one game even remotely close, the West University Little League 13-year-old all-stars recently won both the District 16 and then Section 3 banners.
The only bad news is the season is over, because the 13-year-olds do not get the opportunity to advance past the sectionals, or second round, of the Little League tournament.
But during their brief time together – this season anyway – they did what they have done in the past and that’s win baseball games.
“Just about all of these kids have played (all-stars) together for some time now,” 13s head coach Cape Bell said. “I mean they began playing together as an all-star group (four) years ago. And they’ve done well during that time as a team.“
They won three games in first the district tournament and then the sectional tournament to finish undefeated. And their only close outing was a 7-2 championship win over Missouri City last Monday night in the Section 3 finals.
First baseman/third baseman Connor Wood, shortstop/pitcher Jimmy Winston, first baseman/pitcher Michael Streitmann, outfielder/pitcher Harry Smith, second baseman/outfielder Anthony Snell, third baseman/pitcher Lawrence Sandoval, outfielder/second baseman/pitcher Matthew Neal, outfielder/first baseman/pitcher Joe Gobbilot, outfielder/pitcher John Doxakis, outfielder/catcher Johyn Davis, catcher/second baseman Henry Burks and outfielder/pitcher Matt Ballard were the players on the West University 13s.
